Description
On 26 June 2022, the Order of the Knights of Rizal – Firenze Chapter, will celebrate the 124th Philippine Independence Day in Empoli, Tuscany, Italy.
This year’s celebrations are held under the theme “Kalayaan 2022: Pag-usong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas” or “Independence 2022: Rise Towards the Challenge of a New Beginning”.
The event will be held at the historic Convent of Santo Stefano of the Augustinians in the Auditorium and the cloister. The event will see city officials of Empoli, representatives from the Philippine Honorary Consulate General in Florence and leaders and members of various Filipino organisations.
The programme will open with an entrance of colours followed by the national anthems of the Philippines and Italy. This will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony in honour of the Philippine hero Dr. Jose Rizal. Messages will be heard from honoured guests and will be followed by the ceremonies of the Order of the Knights of Rizal. Performances will also be seen as part of the programme. The celebration will end with an outdoor cocktail reception at the cloister.
Venue
The Philippine Independence Day 2022 celebration by the Knights of Rizal – Firenze Chapter will be held at the Auditorium of the historic Convent and Church of Santo Stefano of the Augustinians, located in the historic centre of Empoli, in the province of Florence. The church was erected by the Augustinians in 1367, the year in which they moved inside the city walls. The programme will be held in the refectory also known as “Cenacolo” with a fresco of the Last Supper from the 1780 while the cocktail reception will be held in the renaissance-era cloister.
